Indigenous to southwestern Asia and the Mediterranean region, coriander is found growing wild in Africa, England and Egypt. It is harvested in many locations around the world with the major producers being in Morocco, Holland, and Canada but it can also be found in the Czech Republic, China, Egypt and Romania. Our certified organic Coriander Seed Powder is harvested in the Czech Republic and is actually more popular than the non organic corianders that we carry.
Coriander's citrusy, warm, spicy flavor is especially popular in African, Chinese, Mediterranean, Mexican, Middle Eastern, Latin American and Southeast Asian cuisines. After dry roasting Coriander is a central ingredient in spice blends like Indian curries and Garam Masala. It is also found in North African Ras El Hanout and Middle Eastern baharat. In Mexican and South American dishes coriander is often used in combination with cumin. Coriander has a fairly mild taste, so cooks tend to use the seeds in larger amounts than many other spices.
An interesting fact – Cilantro (from the leaves of the plant) comes from the same plant as the coriander (from the seeds of the plant). We also offer non organic Coriander Seed Powder and non organtic Coriander Seeds.
Try it in chili, soups, stews and with chicken (grilled or breaded), fish, game and meats. Works well in combination with – allspice, chili powder, cinnamon, cloves, cumin seed, fennel seed, garlic, ginger and nutmeg. Helpful hint: Dry roasting the seeds enhances their flavor.
