South Australian Flake Salt is a beautiful apricot colored gourmet salt flake that is more delicate than Fleur de Sel – considered by many as the satin of salts. These salt is also sometimes referred to as Australian Sea Salt or Pink Salt. This salt flake possesses a wonderfully mild flavor and can be used for roasting and baking and in salt bowls on the table. It is a tasty garnish for grilled meats, fish, baked potatoes and salad and try them for the margarita glass rims.

Because of the nature of the salt, it has a crunch and is considered an outstanding gourmet Australian salt. It is wonderful for all culinary uses. As a finishing salt use on French fries, eggs and omelets, warm buttered crunchy breads and soups. It can be used as a beautifully hued table salt and it is delightful to press the pyramid crystals between the fingers and sprinkled on food at the table. Because of its pyramid shape it tends to “stick” to anything it is put on.

The South Australian Flake Salt is produced by feeding saline water from the Murray Darling Basin into crystallized ponds and is evaporated quickly in N.W. Victoria’s arid climate. The color of this amazing salt flake comes from a red pigment – carotene – that is secreted from the salt tolerant algae. Salt from this region is sometimes referred to as Murray River Salt.

We also offer other outstanding gourmet salts such as Mediterranean Cyprus Flake SaltHawaiian Coarse Table Salt, Pacific Sea Smoked Sea Salt, Sel Gris, Hawaiian Black Salt and Himalayan Pink Salt.

I first purchased this salt when living in Minneapolis. Now, living near the Shenandoah Valley of Virginia, locating such a product is difficult; however, Google came to our rescue. Australian Flake salt should be found in every kitchen. As a finishing salt we use it regularly very lightly sprinkled on toast spread with unsalted butter. It has no equal.

I love it as a finishing salt. I use it almost daily on my buttered morning toast. It hits the tongue quickly and is delicious. A little goes a long way. Because it's a flake, it stands up on top of foods and has a nice little crunch.

This salt was so unexpected. It has a lovely crunch to it. Particularly love it on sandwich night with buffalo chicken, pepperjack cheese, lettuce tomato and onion on a ciabatta roll. Ummm! Cheryl
