Our most popular Organic spice set – this takes the building blocks that we have in our Organic Starter and Organic Standard spice sets and adds a couple more flavorful additions. This spice set is for the hard core organic cook who craves doing their part in saving the planet. We also have a robust 20 jar Organic Master spice collection.

Your ten selections are:

Korintje Cinnamon Powder – Sourced from Indonesia, this is a wildly popular cinnamon and is the type of cinnamon that American’s find most frequently in their own kitchens. The Korintje (or thick quill cinnamon) is the higher quality of the several types of cassia cinnamon available. Our Organic Korintje Cinnamon is rated at Grade A with 3% cinnamon oil content.

Malabar Black Peppercorns – These Peppercorns are handpicked just before the berry ripens. While there are a wide variety of peppercorns available the black Malabar features a pronounced spicy flavor (with a bit more heat and slightly more bite while providing a subtle touch of sweetness) compared to most other types of peppercorns.

Cumin Seed Powder – With an immediately identifiable flavor, cumin is spicy-sweet, warm, somewhat bitter with earthy undertones.  Usage of cumin in the U.S. was practically non-existent up until the exploding interest in Mexican and Latin American dishes in the last twenty years. But cooks in the Far East, Middle East and North Africa have had cumin has been a key spice for many years and is a central ingredient in Tex-Mex chili, curry, Moroccan coucous, garam masala and various Mexican bean, meat and rice dishes.

Granulated Garlic – With rich history in practically every type of cuisine, garlic is one of the most used spices in the world. It appears that garlic enjoys is greatest popularity in Central and South American, Chinese, Indian, Mediterranean, Mexican and Southeast Asian dishes. Our organic Garlic Granules are harvested in the US. You can substitute one teaspoon of garlic granules for one fresh garlic clove.

Turmeric Root Powder – A central ingredient in Curry Powders, Masalas and Ras El Hanout, we source our Turmeric from the Alleppey region in the farthest reaches of southwestern India. This region produces the top quality Turmeric “Fingers” which are appendages that are separated from the main rhizome. These “fingers” possess a greater curcumin content (in essence better coloring), more flavor (because of their higher volatile oil) and this provides the highest quality Turmeric for grinding.

Curry Powder – Indian cooks make their own curry spice blends from both whole and ground spices depending on which dish they are preparing. While the final outcome is always spicy it is not necessarily hot. We carefully mix our curry blends to give you the taste of curry but with the time-saving advantages of not having to hand mix your own. This particular organic version is not considered hot but more of a medium heat.

Paprika Powder The paprika resembles a cross between sweet red bell pepper (but is noticeably milder) and the chili pepper (where it is a bit larger). These peppers are also called sweet red pepper or pimento pepper. Preferred for its vibrant color and gently pungent, sweet/peppery flavor, paprika is a fundamental ingredient in many Cajun and Creole soups, stews, and homemade sausages.

Poppy Seed – You will enjoy the sweet and lightly nutty aroma with a taste that is almost almond-like. In the Western Hemisphere we delight in the delicate crunch and flavor of these blue-black seeds on breads, muffins and pretzels as well as with buttered egg noodles and fruit salad dressings.

Ginger Root Powder – Native to tropical Southeast Asia, ginger has been cultivated for more than 30 centuries. Ground from the dried ginger root this heavenly spice has an off white to light brown appearance and the taste is warm and peppery with light, lemony undertones. Ginger Root is commonly called for in recipes for gingerbread, apple pie, biscuits, carrot cake, chutneys, cookies, pumpkin pie, preserves and sweet potatoes.

Oregano Leaf – Also called the "pizza spice" oregano it is full of complex flavor and a strong aroma. While it can boldly stand alone it also makes the perfect complimentary partner, especially with basil. And for those that like to conjure up their own homemade salt free seasoning blends, oregano is an ideal companion to mix with other spices and herbs and in addition to basil it works very well with garlic, parsley and thyme.
