Mexican food is the ultimate melting pot of cuisines. What originally began hundreds of years ago with their own native flavors eventually became heavily influenced by explorers from China, Europe, India and Spain. So it seems only fitting that as Mexican cuisine has exploded in this country that we have embraced it and have further adapted it into our everyday meals. But what makes a meal uniquely Mexican, of course, are the lively seasonings, although that does not mean that all Mexican recipes are fiery. While their reputation is for their heat they are also filled with many subtle and mesmerizing spice combinations. So here we have brought together some of these wonderful flavors to get you started.

Your six selections are:

Taco Seasoning – A savory blend of lively spices you can use to give any dish a bit of Mexican flair. We’ve carefully mixed this seasoning blend with the whole family in mind so while it has a robust flavor it is not really hot (it has some delicate heat) If you want to add some more zing to your recipe then add some additional Chiles, Cayenne or jalapenos.

Mexican Seasoning – One of our most popular all purpose seasonings this is a splendid choice when you are looking to give a bit of spicy flare to almost any dish. We love to add it to our enchiladas, scrambled eggs, omelets and taco salads but it is also perfect for stir fries and to use in your chili, soups and stews. Use it as a Mexican Rub for steaks, burgers and chicken before you throw them on the grill. The heat level on this is medium.

Manzanillo Seasoning – This is a wonderful time-saving addition to any kitchen – simply sprinkle on your meat when cooking and you’ll have a delicious meal well on the way.  This seasoning blend is hand-mixed for those that prefer their seasonings loaded with flavor and aren’t afraid of some heat. Try this seasoning on your tacos, enchiladas and tostados but can also add it to your chili, scrambled eggs, fajitas, omelets, hamburgers, stew and soups.

Red Pepper Flakes – A central ingredient for many Mexican and African recipes, these chili flakes will add some invigorating flavor without overwhelming your taste buds with their heat (at just 15,000 Scoville Heat Units which is about a 1.5 on a scale of 10). They are also salt-free so they make an excellent addition to the cupboard for any who are on a low-sodium diet.

Chipotle PowderNative to Mexico, chipotle peppers have become almost famous in the US with our fairly recent infatuation with more diverse “chilies”. While chilies are frequently recognized for their hot spiciness, they can also be a bit mild while adding some delicious subtle flavor to many dishes when used in smaller amounts. Use chipotle powder to give a nice smoky kick to just about any meal. Chipotles are considered a medium heat Chile with a rating of 6-7.5 on the heat scale of 10.

Coriander Seed Powder – Native to the Mediterranean region and southwestern Asia, coriander is frequently combined with cumin for a powerful one-two punch of flavor in many Mexican and Latin American recipes. With its fairly mild taste, cooks tend to use coriander in larger amounts than many other spices.
