At the heart of every authentic Asian dish is the perfected art of balance – the sweet mixed with the sour, the hot and the cool, the delicate and the sharp. And while we may conjure up these exotic, tropical paradise images in our heads about Asian cooking these dishes are at their core a thrifty cuisine – one that makes full use of seasonal foods and ingredients that they have on-hand.
So if you are looking to add some delicious flair to your own thrifty dishes then this spice collection will have you well on your way!
Your four selections are:
Chinese Five Spice – This is one of those spice blends that tells a wonderful story – some believe that this was originally created to be the perfect spice blend as it incorporates the five base flavors of Chinese cooking — sweet, sour, bitter, salty and savory. A very versatile spice seasoning blend it can be used in marinades for fish, chicken and seafood and with rice, vegetables and just about any stir fry.
Sweet Curry Powder – This is quickly becoming our best selling curry powder. Curry powder is often thought to only be just hot and spicy but as is frequently the case when a variety of individual cooks and recipes are involved, many curry powders can also be on the milder side. This particular curry blend is light and mild with a touch of sweetness to it.
Ginger Root Powder – Native to China, Ginger Root has a long and colorful history as it was first recorded in the Science of Medicine Hindu manual around 500 BC and also in the Koran. Our Ginger Root is imported from China and has light, lemon pepper aura while the taste is sultry, intense and sharp. This is a key ingredient in both Curry and Chinese Five Spice blends.
Sichuan Peppercorns – Native to China the Sichuan (also sometimes spelled Szechuan) is considered a gourmet peppercorn that provides an unusual, sharp flavor that starts off mildly warm with earthy, lemony undertones and then finishes with a bang with an almost numbing effect on the tongue!
