Not for the faint of heart – this particular Cayenne Pepper tops the charts at 90,000 Scoville Units (or about a 9 on the heat scale of 10)! The Cayenne is a red colored hot chili pepper used in spicy, hot dishes and is named in honor of the capital city of Cayenne in French Guiana, located on the northeastern coast of South America. The American Spice Trade Association prefers to refer to this as the more generic term red pepper and it has reported that consumption of the red pepper is up more than 70% in the last twenty years.
Our Hot Cayenne Pepper will add zest and fire to any dish that calls for red pepper. You will typically see cayenne used in Salsas, Mexican enchiladas, Cajun hot sauce, chili, Chinese stir fries, Thai curries, Indian chutneys and a variety of spice seasning blends. As an added benefit Cayenne Pepper is an excellent source of Vitamin A. Use should use Cayenne Pepper for any recipe that calls for red pepper. For those that prefer maximum heat use this particular cayenne and for those that like it just a little bit of heat you can substitute our milder Cayenne Pepper (that comes in a 3-4 on the heat scale) or our Organic Cayenne Pepper (which comes in at a 3.0).
