This is a spice set that is ideal for your favorite cook who loves the flavor nuances of Moroccan cuisine. Because Morocco was the trade hub of this region for centuries it has a well earned reputation as one of the most diversified cuisines in the world. And best of all this spice set means that your favorite home chef won't have to painstakingly measure out each ingredient as these seasonings do the work for you. And you certainly can't go wrong with any spice set that includes Saffron!
This limited edition spice set was created by Amanda T. from McKinleyville, California and we loved the focus she placed on this sometimes under appreciated cuisine.
This is not a spice set for an inexperienced cook or one who doesn't love to experiment with gobal flavors!
Here is what Charlotte had to say about choosing these particular products - "I’m always looking for new and exciting recipes to cook for my husband and lately have been really interested in Mediterranean, Indian, and Moroccan cooking {tagines, curries, etc}. This set seems like a good place to start."
Here are your six selections:
Moroccan Chicken Spice Rub - Our Moroccan Chicken Spice Rub will bring your taste buds alive as it is loaded with flavors from this region. You’ll find a touch of sweetness balanced by some earthiness and some very subtle undertones of heat. We’ve used this seasoning for everything from backyard grilling to creating an easy to prepare couscous dish topped with our favorite fresh vegetables and chicken.
Saffron - Saffron spice has as an unmistakable aroma that is musky, sharp and floral with subtle honey undertones. The taste is light, cutting, warm, bitter and it then slowly dissipates from your palette. Use with carrots, chicken, eggs, spinach, and winter squash. Saffron works well in combination with anise, cardamom, cinnamon, fennel, ginger, nutmeg, paprika and pepper.
Piri Piri Seasoning - Piri Piri is Swahili for pepper-pepper, and this seasoning is also referred to as Peri Peri. There are many family versions of this spice blend with the most popular coming from Africa, Brazil and Portugal. Perfect for using as a hot spicy rub on beef, chicken, fish or pork for a blast of flavor or lightly sprinkle on shrimp.
Ras El Hanout - The literal translation for Ras El Hanout is “top of the shop” and this Moroccan style curry with a kick is like all curries in that it can be made with a wide variety of ingredients depending on the cook. Some home chefs refer to this as Moroccan Seasoning and use it to season rice, chicken, couscous, vegetables and as a spice rub for lamb chops on the grill.
Garam Masala - Garam Masala originated in northern India and is now common in Bangladesh, Indian and Pakistan cuisines Garam Masala is a general purpose, spicy warm (but not necessarily hot) Indian seasoning that is a traditional ingredient in Indian dahl, kormas, samosas and tandoori Indian cooks use it primarily to flavor meat and poultry. Add just before serving for maximum flavor.
Berbere - This blend is often called the cupboard mix as it seems to have a little bit of everything tossed in – but the prominent spices in Berbere are always centered around the heat of pepper – cayenne, paprika, chili flakes and black pepper (in some variation). Berbere does pack some spiciness from the chile peppers but it is more flavorful than crazy hot.
