Garlic was first introduced into this country in 1700s and initially was not very well received. But currently Americans consume an average of 2.5 lbs per person annually. Somewhat surprisingly only 25% of all garlic consumed in this country is of the fresh variety.
Not only is dried garlic less expensive to store but it is so versatile and comes in several forms including garlic powder, granulated garlic and garlic flakes. This of course comes in handy since garlic is found in so many savory foods. Our Organic Garlic Flakes are a great way to add this tasty herb to recipes without having to peel, chop or mince your garlic. When you’re looking for garlic flavor and texture, then garlic flakes should be your choice. When cooking with liquids flakes are perfect to be added directly to dishes like chili, soups, stews, casseroles, dressings, gravies, sauces and marinades, pickles, and dressings. There are several factors that determine garlic quality – weather is of course the major factor followed closely by soil type and then by how quickly the freshly harvested garlic bulbs are dried, cleaned and processed. A top quality garlic possesses a strong slightly bitter flavor with hints of heat. The aroma is sharp and bold. You can rehydrate your organic garlic flakes by first soaking them in cool water for 30 minutes. Some common dehydrated garlic to fresh garlic substitutions are: 3/4 teaspoon garlic flakes in place of one fresh garlic clove. 1/2 teaspoon granulated garlic in place of one fresh garlic clove. 1/8 teaspoon garlic powder in place of one fresh garlic clove.
