Indigenous to Vietnam this cassia is known as Vietnamese Cinnamon or as it is more popularly named in this country - Saigon Cinnamon. This cinnamon has gained favor with cinnamon aficionados due to its high oil content which comes in at 5%. In comparison Chinese cinnamon is 4% and typical Indonesian cassia is typically 2-3%. This gives a very strong and distinctive cinnamon flavor. .
These are our Certified Organic Saigon cinnamon sticks. These sticks are approximately 2-3/4" long and because our cinnamon is sold by weight you will get approximately seven sticks per ounce (if several of the sticks are cracked or broken you will get more sticks in a bag).
The most popular baking spice in the world, cinnamon’s familiar aroma and taste is instantly recognizable in a variety of cookies, breads, ice cream, cakes, dumplings, pies, pastries and puddings. You will also find it in other flavorful dishes as well – soups, chutneys, pickles, meat glazes, squash and even vinegars. It is also an outstanding enhancement to hot drinks like tea, cider, coffee and cocoa.
Vietnamese Cinnamon also enhances fruits like apricots, apples, cherries, blueberries and oranges. Vegetables pair well with cinnamon’s subtle yet robust aroma, fragrance and warm taste, especially with onions, carrots and spinach.
Now because Saigon cinnamon has such a potent flavor (due to the higher oil content) you'll get a more complete through and through cinnamon flavor in your baked goods. This is the cinnamon of choice with several of our high end bakeries that we supply.
We also carry an organic Saigon Cinnamon powder as well as organic Korintje cinnamon sticks (from Indonesia) and true cinnamon Ceylon sticks. We offer a complete selection of the highest quality cinnamon.
