Hot Chinese Mustard Sauce 1 cup sugar 1 cup vinegar 1/4 teaspoon Sea Salt 2 tablespoons soy sauce 1 tablespoon Yellow Mustard Seed Powder 1/2 tablespoon Ginger Powder 1/2 cup water Directions: 1. Bring sugar, vinegar, salt and soy sauce to a boil in a medium saucepan. 2. Whisk together water, cornstarch and mustard until smooth. 3. Slowly pour mustard mixture into sugar mixture and cook until it thickens, stirring constantly. 4. Stir in grated ginger root. Serve hot or cold. Helpful hint: You can control the heat of the sauce with the temperature of the water used. The colder the water the hotter it will mix. Also once it is mixed the heat will start to build the longer the sauce is left at room temperature. For a milder taste refrigerate immediately, for a hotter taste leave at room temperature for 2-8 hours. |
