Cardamom Mulling Spice
Mulling is the process of steeping fruits and whole spices brandy, cider, juice or wine. Originating in Europe centuries ago and is a part of many holiday celebrations around the globe. This has only more recently gained widespread popularity in the US, as people rediscover the delicious taste of a spice, hot drink. There are a wide variety of mulling spices and it seems as if each family has a slightly different way that they mix their “traditional spices” and which secret ingredient to add. Here is a simple one where the “secret ingredient” is cardamom seeds. The cardamom seeds give a warm taste with a hint if citrus flavor to your favorite mulled beverage. Ingredients 1 Tbsp cardamom seeds 1 Tbsp whole cloves 1 Tbsp allspice berries 1 Tsp orange zest 12 cassia cinnamon sticks, 2-3/4” Directions 1. In a small mixing bowl combine the cardamom, cloves, allspice and orange zest and mix well 2. Add 2 Tsp of mixture to a small muslin bag and tie 3 cassia cinnamon sticks to the top of the bag 3. Makes enough mulling spice for 4 hot beverages |
