Using Turkey Rubs

While we prefer to season our turkey either by brining or marinating you can also use a flavorful rub on your bird if you prefer.

Dry turkey rubs are most often used for those who are deep frying or oven roasting their turkeys. The biggest challenge when using a rub on your turkey is that the meat is thick and it is more difficult to get an even seasoning all the way through to the middle of the meat.

Rubbing your bird is fairly straight forward – liberally apply the rub seasoning to the outside of the meat and skin and work the rub in using your hands. Make sure wherever you can lift the skin that you work the rub under the skin as well. We also like to liberally season inside the cavity so that the seasoning can work its way into the meat from the inside out. So be sure to apply inside and pat it in with your hand.

For best results we like to season our bird with our turkey rub and then refrigerate for 24 hours before cooking to give the rub as much time as possible to work its way into the meat.
