Flax is also known as linseed or common flax. Flax Seed (also spelled flaxseed) has roots dating back to beginnings of civilization where it is native to the region extending from the eastern Mediterranean to India. Harvested throughout ancient Egypt and Ethiopia and, according to the Flax Council of Canada, dyed flax fibers have even been found in a prehistoric cave dating back to 3,000 BC.

Our Flaxseed is grown and harvested in Canada which today is the largest producer of flax seed in the world.

Health nutritionists call flax one of the most powerful plant foods on the planet. There are numerous research studies that say that it helps reduce the risk of heart disease, cancer, stroke, and diabetes.

While flax seed is loaded with numerous healthy components, its healthy reputation hinges primarily on these three points:

  • The essential fatty acid Omega-3. This is the king (or queen) of "good" fats that have been shown to have heart-healthy effects and play a large role in people of all ages looking to get leaner with their diets. One tablespoon of ground flaxseed contains almost 2 grams of plant Omega-3s.
  • Flaxseed contains 75 times more lignans than other plant foods, lignans are known for their antioxidant qualities.
  • Flaxseed is high in both the soluble and insoluble types of fiber.
To get the optimum benefit of dietary fiber and Omega-3 oils, flax seed should be ground into a fine powder. Use your kitchen coffee grinder and grind in small amounts. As is the case with many spice seeds, once ground, the oil inside the seeds oxidizes rapidly and loses its potency.

It is recommended that you consume 2 tablespoons of flax seed daily. When adding flaxseed to your diet you should also consume plenty of water for maximum effect.

We add ground flaxseed to our daily oatmeal, in smoothies, into stir-fry dishes, soup, stews, cereal and yogurt. Since flaxseed is about 40% oil you can reduce the oil needed in any recipe that calls for olive oil. Flaxseed is also gluten free.
