Appropriately named, allspice has a pleasantly warm and fragrant aroma of cinnamon, cloves and nutmeg (with just a pinch of pepper, too). An individual spice, not a blend with various ingredients, allspice is one of just three tropical spices native to the Western Hemisphere (the other two are the chili pepper and vanilla).

Much of the world's allspice is harvested from Jamaica, but Guatemala, Honduras and Mexico are also significant producers. The Jamaican allspice berries, are the most clove-like and are considered the highest quality. They are picked by hand from cultivated trees while berries from the other producers are typically harvested from wild trees.

The Jamaican Allspice has the highest oil content (typically between 4 and 5 percent) and are more uniform in appearance than the other berries. We also offer Jamaican Allspice Berries in addition to this Ground Jamaican Allspice.

A key ingredient in most jerk spice mixtures Allspice also works well in combination with chili powder, cloves, coriander, garlic, ginger, dry mustard powder and pepper. It is also found in some of these well searched for recipes – Sweet Potato Hash, Jerk Chicken MarinadeAmish Cinnamon Bread and Cincinnati Chili.

This Jamaican Allspice is thousands of times better than the store-bought, bleached out allspice. Great flavor and aroma to stir-fry, sausage, gumbo...Very pleased!
