Whole Spices Starter

There is nothing quite like grinding your spices fresh. This is a wonderful starter set for those that are looking to try whole spices for the first time or are looking for a unique gift for a foodie friend or relative. These are four of our most popular whole spices and are found in a wide variety of regional recipes so no matter what their cooking style you can’t go wrong.
Your four selections are:
Coriander Seed – Coriander's taste is rather mild, so you can experiment rather generously without overwhelming a dish. Coriander features a spicy, warm, citrusy flavor that is enjoyed in African, Chinese, Latin American, Middle Eastern, Mediterranean, Mexican and Southeastern Asian cuisines.
Cumin Seed – With an unmistakable flavor that is spicy-sweet, aromatic and with somewhat bitter undertones, only recently has Cumin begun to be recognized as a popular spice in this country. However worldwide, it is one of the most consumed spices right behind chiles and pepper.
Fennel Seed – Also known as “the fish herb” by Italian and French cooks who believe that fennel's subtle, anise-like flavor with licorice undertones is the perfect compliment with fish. Fennel will quickly lose its flavor when ground so we recommend grinding the seeds in small batches for maximum flavor. In order to maximize its delicate flavor we prefer to add it toward the end of the cooking process.
Cardamom Seed – Cardamom intensifies both savory and sweet flavors and its taste is light and lemony while its aroma is rugged yet gentle, biting and a bit fruity. In India Cardamom is known as the “Queen of Spices” (pepper is referred to as the “king”).
