Granulated Honey, also commonly referred to as Powdered Honey, is not easy to find. Known as the world's oldest known sweetener, honey is one of the few foods that will never spoil. Honey that is still edible has even been found in ancient Egyptian tombs.
Honey is considered a classic sweetener with a thick, complex flavor. Granulated Honey is often used to sweeten drinks, baked goods, and marinades in place of conventional sugar. There are some who even consider granulated honey to be sweeter than sugar, so you may want to use less depending on your sweetness preference. Granulated honey goes through a drying process and is then broken into pin-head sized granules. While possessing all of honeys rich flavor, honey granules are substantially easier to store, measure and work with. Because of its powder like consistency it is also ideal to use in rub blends, and it also plays nicely with other rub ingredients while keeping its sticky nature making it a favorite ingredient of ours. And when the rub is activated by the heat of the grill or smoker the granulated honey will glaze very nicely. One of our favorite dry rubs with this heavenly ingredient is Chipotle Honey Rub. This is not pure honey and it does have some additional ingredients added. Contains - honey and sugar. One of our favorite recipes using granulated honey is Lean Ground Beef Chili. |
