Cacao nibs are becoming more and more popular, but many people don’t know exactly what they are. Basically they are lightly crushed cacao beans. Their flavor is a bit bittersweet with the crunchy texture of roasted nuts. Dark chocolate aficionados will love our high quality nibs, which are more intense than the chocolate made from them.
Our Cacao Nibs are not only certified organic but are also Fair Trade Certified as our supplier has gone to great lengths to ensure, if not the highest quality product available one of the very best. They are actively involved in every step of the process from the planting, growing and harvesting to the shipping, cleaning and roasted. Our raw organic cacaos beans are sourced primarily from the Dominican Republic. After harvesting the beans are cleaned and then air roasted. They then move to a winnower machine that partially crushes the beans and removes the outer shell. At this stage of the process this product is known as cacao nibs. This is where the nibs are pulled, packaged and sent to our supplier. Other nibs continue further into the process where they are turned into a superior grade of cocoa powder that is used in some of the finest chocolates. Cacao Nibs are a wonderful taste sensation and can be used in a traditional manner such as in various baked goods, cakes, cookies, ice cream, pie toppings. But for a surprising taste sensation we have also found these to be marvelous additions to chili, moles, savory sauces, and we even use them to top off our morning oatmeal and in our salads.
