Week Two - Training for a 5K

New Shoes!!  What woman doesn”t get excited over new shoes?

I went to my local sports store, tried on several pairs of shoes and realized I had no idea what I was doing . They asked me about pronation and how many miles I would put on a pair of shoes.  Are they for running or running/walking?  I decided that I should do some research before I plucked down over $100 for these treads.  Long story short, go online, do the research before you choose a shoe.  Runnersworld.com was a very helpful website.  I found a pair of shoes, actually I had tried on a similar pair at the store, but found that based on my pronation and my weight, I needed a structured cushioning shoe. I came away with the Asics GT-2150 and they feel great!

Ready To Run!

Ready To Run!

On Saturday, I finished week two of my training for a 5K that I am in on April 17.  Here in NE Pennsylvania, we have just had a stretch of really nice weather, so Saturday, I took to the road to run.  It was a lot tougher than I thought, the hardness of the road and the inclines are much different from the treadmill.  I hope to run outside again this week.

Here’’s what I did this week:

  • Mon – Interval Running on Treadmill 35 mins
  • Tues – Weight Training 30 mins + 15 min aerobic warm up
  • Wed – Interval Running on Treadmill 35 mins
  • Thur – Weight Training 30 mins + 15 min aerobic warm up
  • Fri – Weight Training 30 mins
  • Sat – Interval Running outside – 2.25 miles – 35 mins

Jess -
Not so sure about ””awesome”” yet – right now it is just hard. I love the physical activity and I enjoyed running outside this weekend – now I just have to work hard to go further and run faster. I will get there.

The shoes make SUCH a difference!!! (and they are pink and shiny – always a plus) :-)
