This breakfast has evolved over the last year or so and on my heavy calorie days I may up a few of the ingredients or add a banana. But this base breakfast is the first meal of the day for me after my morning workout.
I love oatmeal – and for fat burning purposes this is where it really shines. While it falls under the complex (starchy) carbs category it packs an almost match made in heaven balance between protein, carbohydrates and Omega-6 fatty acids (the good fat) and to boot it also scores very low on the glycemic index making it one of the top burn fat and get crazy lean foods.
Throw in another six powerhouse ingredients – blueberries, strawberries, almonds, low fat yogurt, 1% milk and ground flax seed and you have a filling start to your day that is loaded with nutrients and super foods. I also like to add some Saigon Cinnamon and some ground Nutmeg for some additional flavor. Of course I am also going to have a couple of fish oil tablets.
Now certainly when I am hitting the gym 5-6 days a week I know that a good balance between lifting weights and effective cardio is important but refueling your body with the right fat burning foods is even more critical especially when you’re working hard to get lean.

What You’ll Need
- 1 Cup Quaker Quick1 Minute Oats Dry

this looks absolutely scrumptious! I cannot believe I haven””t had this before…it”’’s very similar to what I””ve been making, but the fruit puts it over the top. YUM!
Thanks Kristy – this is definitely my favorite fat burning super breakfast. I really like when we are in season with all the berries so that I can also use fresh raspberries, blackberries and blueberries.
I””ve been trying to eat oatmeal for breakfast as my New Years resolution. But it”’’s always with boring raisins. I love the idea of adding spices to it….especially the nutmeg. Can””t wait to try this!
Thanks Eileen. I love nutmeg in my morning oatmeal as well but you have to be careful to only use a bit (especially to start) as it can easily over power your oats. Recently I have been testing cacao nibs (we are getting ready to add these to the site next week) and I love the hint of chocolate without the overpowering sweetness.
I love oatmeal and I especially love it with fresh fruit like strawberries, blueberries, or peaches mixed in. I will definitely have to try out this recipe!
