Oaxacan Vegetable Seasoning
Oaxacan Vegetable Seasoning
Whimsical and rich, our Oaxacan Vegetable Seasoning offers deep flavors in terrific balance. Blended with a variety of chiles, we have the dark chocolate of anchos, the fruity lift of guajillo, and the pleasant, smoky spike of chipotle, circling around an aromatic base of garlic. Lemony thyme rides the top notes along with the citrusy pepper of Mexican oregano. Nutty sesame seeds add a fun crunch while bright pops of salt evoke nuances among the ingredients, highlighting the juicy berry nature of guajillo, opening the door for the oregano to offer a licorice-like finish. We blend our Oaxacan Vegetable Seasoning in small batches in our facility, so we can feel confident in offering our customers the freshest and most flavorful products available.
Oaxaca is located in the southwest corner of Mexico, a rugged region of deep valleys set amid three different mountain ranges, with the Pacific Ocean at its western edge. Sixteen of Mexico’s 21 groups of indigenous people are represented in Oaxaca, each bringing their takes on food and cooking styles. The variety of cultures and climates gave rise to a wildly diverse culinary tradition, reflecting the influences of the mountains, rich volcanic soil, and the abundance of the Pacific. Oaxaca’s difficult terrain may seem like a downside, but it offered inherent protection against the Spanish as they conquered Mexico. Culinary traditions in Oaxaca were preserved that were otherwise lost in easier-to-access regions of the country, and to this day Oaxacan cuisine is dictated by how best to use to the 9% of the land that is arable, or the ocean.
Tips From Our Kitchen
Our Oaxacan Vegetable Seasoning was made with vegetables in mind. We like it on eggplant, cauliflower, broccoli, corn on the cob, brussels sprouts, carrots, and parsnips. You can either roast or sauté for delicious results. It's excellent on baked potatoes, and it's fantastic sprinkled over French fries. We love it on roasted or grilled tomatoes. The smokiness of the blend is a brilliant compliment to the sweetness of the tomatoes. This blend adds a little texture and a lot of flavor to meat, so toss on sliced beef for fajitas or dusted over chicken breasts, and put them on the grill. Use it in tortilla soup, as a base in a rich cauliflower soup, or in a Mexican noodle soup called sopa de fideos. Have this at breakfast over avocado toast, or smear into some cream cheese for your bagel.
We blend our Oaxacan Vegetable Seasoning with ancho, guajillo, garlic, sea salt, sesame seeds, chipotle meco, thyme, and Mexican oregano.
